Karolina Pliskova dominated Jenifer Brady 6-1 6-0 to advance to the Quarter-Finals of the US Open for a second consecutive season.

In the early exchanges of the contest, Karolina Pliskova dominated from the back of the court as she raced into a 4-0 lead. She used her power from the back of the court as she overpowered her American opponent. This was an unrecognisable Pliskova to the one that survived earlier tests against Nicole Gibbs and Shuai Zhang as she regained her physicality and strength that had been missing in earlier rounds. Pliskova took advantage of Brady’s lack of first serves as she wrapped up the first set with relative ease, 6-1 in 25 minutes.

The American wasn’t quite aggressive enough with her court positioning in the first set, which was one of the reasons why she couldn’t break down an unbeatable Karolina Pliskova. This continued to remain a constant problem for the American as she went 3-0 down at the start of the second set. Pliskova looked focus as she was determined to keep hold of her World number one and prevent Brady from playing her game. The American couldn’t adapt and looked lost on Arthur Ashe stadium. It was a bad day at the office from Brady and after 46 minutes the World number one completed victory to move into the Quarter-Finals.

After the match Karolina Pliskova commented on the win and the state of tennis in the Czech Republic:

‘I wanted to try and play a little bit better and improve my performance. I think Czech tennis is doing very well in singles and doubles, so we are in a good place.’

Pliskova will be pleased to waste as little energy as possible as she looks to protect her World number one from Elina Svitolina and the provisional World number one Garbine Muguruza, who was eliminated last night. The big serving Czech Republican will now play Lucie Safarova or Coco Vandeweghe.
