Milos Raonic has spoken about the departure of his former coach Ivan Ljubicic during a telephone interview with The Courier Mail.

Last month Raonic confirmed that he has parted ways with Ljubicic after two-and-a-half years together. During his time with the former world No.3, Raonic reached eight finals on the ATP Tour, winning titles at three of them. Since the separation, Ljubicic has joined Roger Federer’s coaching team after the 17-time Grand Slam champion stopped working with Stefan Edberg.

Speaking about Ljubicic’s new adventure, Raonic said that he has no hard feelings against his former coach. He also said that both men agreed to go their own ways.

“The decision that I wasn’t working with Ivan was before (Federer’s announcement) _ we had sat down and it felt like the right decision, more coming from his side,’’ Raonic told The Courier-Mail.
“It was very smooth and there are no hard feelings about it”.

The 24-year-old has decided not to replace Ljubicic in his team. Instead the Canadian will continue working with Italian coach Riccardo Piatti, somebody who has been in Raonic’s team since 2014. In the past Piatti has also worked with Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

“I have Ricardo and the same physio and same trainer”. The world No.14 said.
“Ricardo has been working with me since the start of 2014 alongside Ivan. He has taken over the whole responsibility, and he’s a thoroughbred coach. It’s been going well.’’

The Canadians off-season preparations has been hindered by back problems. He was forced to withdraw from this year’s International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) due to back spasms. It has been an issue which has troubled the Canadian during the second part of this season. He was also forced to withdraw from his final tournament of 2015, the BNP Paribas Open, due to a back injury. Despite the recent setbacks the world No.14 is confident ahead of the start of 2016.

“I’m making the right progress and I look forward to my first matches in Brisbane and being 100 percent I hope. I feel fit and strong.’’ He concluded.

Raonic’s 2016 season is scheduled to get underway at the Brisbane International. Last year at the tournament he reached the final before losing to Roger Federer. Federer’s win against the Canadian was his 1000th victory on the ATP World Tour.
