TENNIS FED CUP 2015 – Russia leads 2-0 against Poland in Krakow despite the support of 15000 Polish fans. Svetlana Kuznetsova broke serve in the third set to upset Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets with 6-4 2-6 6-2. Australian Open finalist Maria Sharapova, who made her firs appearance in the Fed Cup since 2012, cruised to a comfortable 6-3 6-0 win over Agnieszka’s younger sister to earn Russia the 2-0 lead. Sharapova got the break after a long second game before winning four games in a row for a bagel win in the first set after 33 minutes. The Russian star went up a break for 2-0 in the second set, The younger sister of Agnieszka finally won her first game when she broke serve in the third game of the second set. Urszula went up a break for 3-2 as she hit a forehand cross-court winner. Sharapova broke straight back to seal the win after one hour and 21 minutes
Sharapova will be looking to score the third point for Russia on Sunday against Agnieszka Radwanska in the first reverse rubber match.
“It was really important to start off strong. I had a let-down in the second set. She started a bit more steady. I started making too many unforced errors and little by little the momentum changed”, said Sharapova.
In the other match Agnieszka broke serve for 2-0 but she failed to hold her serve. Kuznetsova broke serve twice before clinching the opening set on the third set point as Agnieszka hit her forehand wide. The Russian player went up a break in the second set but Agnieszka kept the hopes of the home fans alive when she broke back to draw level to 2-all. Agnieszka built a 4-2 lead when she hit her backhand down the line before breaking serve for 6-2 in the eighth game. Kuznetsova hit a forehand winner to take the break at the start of the decider. Kuznetsova broke again and sealed the win on her first match point. Kuznetsova extended her win-loss record to 11-4 in her head-to-head matches against Radwanska.
