Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo, finalist in Barcelona two weeks ago, pulled off the major upset of the third round when he dropped just five games for a surprising 6-3 6-2 win over Olympic champion and Wimbledon winner Andy Murray. With this win Giraldo scored his first ever win against a top-10 player.

World Number 46 Giraldo has continued on his vein of form after his first ATP 500 final in Barcelona and his tow wins in the first two rounds over Lleyton Hewitt and Jo Wilfred Tsonga. He has scored a 12-2 winning record since April and today he has confirmed his impressive form

Giraldo hit a forehand down the line to win the opening game to love before breaking serve in the second game. en route to winning the first set 6-3.

Murray earned the only break point of the match as he was leading 1-0 in the second game of the second set. Giraldo broke serve twice in the third and in the seventh games before sealing the win with an ace after 70 minutes. Giraldo reaches his first quarter final a Master 1000.Giraldo will face Roberto Bautista Agut who beat lucky loser Lukas Kubot. 6-4 6-2

Giraldo hit 16 winners, while Murray made 24 unforced errors.

Murray admitted that he hopes to find a new coach after splitting from Ivan Lendl last March after two successful years in which he collected the US Open in 2012, the Olympic title in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2013.

He played very well from start to finish. He didn’t make many mistakes”, said Murray after the match. I did not make it hard enough for him in the second set.
