TENNIS WTA Madrid – Agnieszka Radwanska, the No. 3 – seed survived a tricky first set in her second round match against Eugenie Bouchard to win 7-6, 6-3. Another interesting result is the 6-3 4-6 6-1 victory of Svetlana Kuznetsova who beat the Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. From Madrid, Simone Kemler

Radwanska, the No. 3 – seed survived a tricky first set in her second round match against Canadian Upstart Eugenie Bouchard, where she had to go all the way through the tiebreak, before she could claim it. “…very tough first round, especially for the tournament on the clay…I didn’t use my first chance when I was 5-3 up. But, you know, she was really playing and hitting the ball unbelievable. But of course I think the tiebreak was the biggest key in that match. I did a couple good shots in the tiebreak and managed to win that. I think that gave me more confidence in the second set and it was a little bit easier.” the Polish No. 1 summarized after winning the second set 6-2 and so the complete match.

Another interesting result is the 6-3 4-6 6-1 victory of Svetlana Kuznetsova who beat the Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. Kirsten Flipkens from Belgium could not overcome her slow start into the match with Na Li, giving away the first set too quickly with 6:1. She fought hard in set two forcing the Chinese into the tiebreak, but there Li did not leave Flipkens a chance, took in seven straight point and thus the whole match.

German Sabine Lisicki is also in round three, fighting Czech Karolina Pliskova down in three sets 6-2 6-7(5) 6-3. It remains to be seen whether she can ‘speed up’ and find back to her form, after injury, because not only the clay court season is approaching its peak with Madrid and consequently the French Open in Paris.

Romanian Simona Halep did very well in her match against Germany’s Julia Görges, leaving the latter virtually no time to breathe: her result 6-2 6-0 shows once more that she is a name one should definitely put on the list for the future.

A further name that was not mentioned so often lately was the one of Caroline Wozniacki – in her second round in Madrid the Dane showed a strong and determined performance against Russian Elena Makarova winning 6-2 6-2.
