Alexander Zverev starts his campaign against Austrian Next Gen player Joel Schaaertzler in Vienna

Number 1 seed Alexander Zverev will take on Austrian Next Gen 18-year-old player Joel Schwaertzler in the first round of the Erste Bank Open at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna. Zverev could face either Alex Michelsen or Marco Giron in the second round. 

Dominic Thiem will play as a wild card against Italy’s Luciano Darderi in the first round. The winner of this match will clash against either Kei Nishikori or this year’s US Open semifinalist Jack Draper. 

This year’s Miami Open semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov will start his campaign against China’s Zhang Zhizhen. Dimitrov is currently 10th in the ATP Live Ranking. The Bulgarian player finished runner-up to Tommy Paul in the Nordic Open final in Stockolm on Sunday. 

Alex De Minaur will face Jan Lennard Struff in the opening round match. De Minaur player his first tornament since the US Open, where he lost to Jack Draper in  the quarter final. De Minaur won titles at Acapulco and s’Hertogenbosch  and reached the quarter final at Monte-Carlo, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. De Minaur is collision course to a potential quarter final against his compatriot Alexey Popyrin, who won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto. 

Tommy Paul will play against his compatriot Brandon Nakashima in an all-American first round clash. Paul beat Dimitrov in the final in Stockolm this year. Paul could potentially either meet 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini or a qualifier, or Frances Tiafoe, who will open his campaign against Cameron Norrie. 

Rublev makes his debut in Basel

Andrey Rublev will make his debut at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Rublev will open his campaign against Nuno Borges in the first round. The Russian player is on a collision course for a potential clash against Ben Shelton. 

Rublev is one spot ahead of Casper Rudd in the ATP Race to Turin. Ruud will take on Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the opening round. Ruud is projected to meet defending champion Felix Auger Alassime in the quarter final. The Norwegian player is looking to bounce back from the disappointment of last year’s edition, when he lost to Dominic Stricker. 

Stan Wawrinka will face Adrian Mannarino in the first round. Wawrinka reached the semifinal in Stockolm at the age of 39 this week. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas could potentially meet Arthur Fils in the first round. The Greek player will make his appearance in Basel since 2019, when he lost to Roger Federer in the semifinal.
