Jannik Sinner secured his 250th ATP tour win with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Taro Daniel in Shanghai while Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning streak.
The world number one bounced back from his final defeat to Alcaraz in Beijing by defeating Daniel in straight sets.
It means Sinner is the first player born in the 2000’s to reach 250 ATP tour wins as he moved into the second round in Shanghai.
Speaking after the match Sinner admitted he felt comfortable during the 78 minute victory, “I felt quite comfortable today,” the Italian told the ATP website.
“I feel in good shape also physically, which is very important for me. Of course I will try to improve for tomorrow’s performance, but today I was serving really, really well, especially in important moments, and was moving well.”
Sinner will now face Tomas Martin Etcheverry tomorrow in the third round with their current head-to-head at 1-0 to the Italian.
Another player who will be back in action on Sunday is Carlos Alcaraz after the Spaniard defeated Juncheng Shang 6-2 6-2.
Alcaraz hit 14 winners and 10 unforced errors in the victory and was pleased with his victory, “I’m just happy to to be able to win these kinds of matches,” Alcaraz explained to the ATP website.
“I’m not used to playing against players younger than me. He has been playing good tennis lately, lifting his first ATP [title in Chengdu], so I’m pretty sure he’s going to climb the rankings.
“At the net he told me that it’s a pleasure share the court with you. So these kinds of things that I hear from [younger players], it’s great.”
It’s now ten consecutive wins for Alcaraz as he takes on wildcard Yibing Wu in the third round.
