Sisters Veronika and Polina Kudemertova have both reached the quarter finals of a WTA Tour tournament for the first time at the Hana Bank Korea Open in Seoul.
Lucky loser Polina Kudemertova came back from 3-5 down to beat 2022 Seoul champion champion Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2 7-5. Polina lost to Lu Jia Jing in the final round of qualifying, but she bounced back to win the first top 50 win of her career and reach the quarter finals in Seoul for the second consecutive year. Polina will face either number3 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia or Ajla Tomljanovic.
Former number 9 Veronika Kudemertova beat number 2 seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-4 6-2 in the last match of the night session. Kudemertova extended her lead to 5-2 in her head-to-head matches against Samsonova, including three consecutive matches in the past 12 months. Kudemertova lost to Camila Osorio from 5-0 up in the third set. Veronika set up a match against either Amanda Anisimova or Viktoriya Tomova. Diana Shnader beat Carol Zhao 6-2 6-3 in 1 hour and 7 minutes. Marta Kostyuk cruised past Heather Watson 6-2 6-2 in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
