World number one Jannik Sinner eased past Alex Michelsen to reach the third round while Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated.
Sinner was in dominant form as he cruised to a 6-4 6-0 6-2 against the 20 year-old prodigy.
Although the score looked easy, Sinner had to overcome a stern test in the opening set as Michelsen recovered from an early break down to take a 2-1 lead.
The American has a big serve and a confident personality and he displayed that early on, taking the match to Sinner.
However the Italian recovered well and played his dominant game to gain control of the match as he broke in the seventh game for a 4-3 lead.
Michelsen wouldn’t give up easily as the Winston-Salem finalist broke immediately back but Sinner’s quality in the big points prevailed as he won the next two games to win the opening set.
From there, Sinner went from strength to strength as he only lost two games in the last two sets to book a place in the third round.
Next for the world number one is Christopher O’Connell on Saturday after the Australian has beaten Nicolas Jarry and Mattia Bellucci to reach the third round.
Hurkacz and Korda eliminated
There have been two big seeds crash out on day four as seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz was defeated in straight sets by Jordan Thompson.
Thompson has been in good form recently and the Australian took advantage of Hurkacz’s recent injury struggles to seal a 7-6(2) 6-1 7-5 victory.
Next for the world number 32 is Matteo Arnaldi, who defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets.
The other big seed to exit the tournament so far is 16th seed Sebastian Korda as he lost 6-4 6-2 6-4 to Tomas Machac.
Machac will now play David Goffin or Adrian Mannarino for a spot in the second week.
