Iga Swiatek was one of many Polish athletes that was subject of a hack on the Polish Anti-Doping Agency.

The hack was carried out by Ukrainian hacking group Beregini which saw athletes records and some private details being released in public.

Allegedly the records were leaked on Telegram with the Polish Anti-Doping Agency’s (POLADA) website being offline last Tuesday.

Defending the athletes, POLADA strongly advised people not to believe the information that was leaked as none of the athletes have had a positive test result, “In connection with the hacker attack, we inform that the data is being used by cybercriminals for various purposes, including broadly understood disinformation,” POLADA said in a statement on Twitter, quoted by tennisuptodate.

“Fake news discrediting Polish athletes has appeared in the public space. Please do not duplicate it. None of the listed athletes received a positive result and none of the presented dates correspond to the conducted anti-doping controls.”

That wasn’t the end of the controversy as it seems to be that phone numbers and home addresses were also leaked online.

Speaking to Polish news site Przeglad Sportowy, POLADA gave more details of the intentions behind the attack, “The findings indicate that the attack is the action of a group supported by the services of an enemy state,” POLADA stated.

“Currently, the case is the subject of an investigation and a detailed technical analysis. POLADA has taken the necessary steps to secure the systems and submit a notification to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. We are in constant contact with the Police, CERT Polska, the Personal Data Protection Office and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.”

Swiatek will be hoping to concentrate on on-court matters this week as she plays her first tournament since the Olympics in Cincinnati.

The world number one will face either Ajla Tomljanovic or Varvara Gracheva in her opening round match.
