Paula Badosa came back from one set down to beat 19-year-old Thai wild-card Lanlana Tararudee 3-6 6-4 6-1 in 1 hour and 57 minutes in the first round at the Thailand Open.
Tararudee converted her third break point in the second game to open up a 3-0 lead. Badosa broke back in the fifth game for 2-3. Tararudee earned her second break in the sixth game to win the first set 6-3.
Badosa broke in the second game of the second set to open up a 2-0 lead. Tararudee broke straight back in the third game, but she made a pair of double faults at 4-5, as she was serving at 4-5 in a tight second set. Badosa earned the break in the 10th game to win the second set 6-4.
Badosa broke twice in the second and sixth games and came back from 15-40 down to seal the win on his first match point.
“Her level surprised me. I think she has a great future. Credits to her. She played well. I had to stay there. I had to wait for my moment”, said Badosa.
Viktorija Golubic cruised past Laura Pigossi 6-1 6-2. Golubic earned a match point with a forehand and sealed the win a backhand down the line.
Nao Hibino came back from 0-5 down in the first set before winning 13 of the next 14 games. The Japanese player fended off three set points on her serve, one down 0-5 and two more 4-5 down.
Diana Schaider upset Magda Linette 6-4 1-6 6-1. Number 5 seed Wang Xinyu eased past former world number 12 Wang Qiang 6-1 6-1 in 58 minutes.
