Daria Kasatkina has exposed the social media abuse that she gets after reaching the semi-finals at the WTA Elite Trophy.
Kasatkina won both of her group matches against Barbora Krejcikova and Magda Linette respectively to reach the last four in Zhuhai.
The world number 17 is bidding to win her first title of the season in China and could face the likes of Caroline Garcia or Jelena Ostapenko in the last four.
However after the match Kasatkina revealed that despite her victory, she received abuse on social media and described it as ‘completely out of control.’
There are still no signs of tennis taking steps to protect their athletes from social media abuse as it’s been an ongoing issue for many tennis players.
The majority abuse comes from angry bettors as social media websites still have no real solution to neutralising the abuse athletes face on a daily basis.
However on the court Kasatkina seems to have all the solutions as she prepares for Saturday’s semi-finals.
Jelena Ostapenko will look to join Kasatkina as she began her WTA Elite Trophy campaign with a 4-6 6-4 6-1 win over Donna Vekic, who has lost both of her group matches.
Ostapenko will now face Qinwen Zheng for a spot in the last four on Friday.
