The teams for this year’s edition of the Laver Cup have been finalised ahead of September’s showdown in Vancouver.
Last year Team World claimed their first ever title in London as they narrowly defeated Team Europe in an event that saw Roger Federer play his last professional tennis match.
This year’s edition will be held in Vancouver, Canada and will take place on the weekend of the 22nd-24th of September.
Team World had already announced that Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger-Aliassime would be on their team but today have announced that Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo will complete the line-up in Canada.
Speaking ahead of the exciting weekend in Vancouver Team World captain John McEnroe spoke about the balance of his team, “I’m looking forward to bringing the team together in Vancouver,” McEnroe told the Laver Cup website.
“It is a talented group, with both experience and youth. Taylor, Frances, Felix and Tommy were all part of our win in London and that gives us a lot of confidence coming into this year. We’re feeling good about our chances.”
Standing in Team World’s way is Team Europe who had already announced Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune and Andrey Rublev to their team for next month’s encounter.
However today Bjorn Borg has added Hubert Hurkacz and Gael Monfils to all-star line-up as they look to regain the Laver Cup title.
Speaking about today’s additions Borg has said that Team Europe will give everything to regain the title, “I’m very happy with our team,” Borg told the Laver Cup website.
“Hubert and Gael are two great additions. In total, on paper, we should be the favorites. Still, it is never easy. We are looking forward to getting to Vancouver and will be ready to give it everything to win back the title.”
This year’s Laver Cup will be the sixth edition of the competition with Team Europe winning the title on five occasions.
