Holger Rune has provided fans with an injury update ahead of the US hard court season as Nick Kyrgios withdraws from the Citi Open in Washington.
Rune suffered an injury at the Hopman Cup as he was suffering from an illness that started on the morning of his quarter-final defeat at Wimbledon to Carlos Alcaraz.
The Dane had to take some time off the recover and re-energise ahead of a busy US hard court season.
However it now seems that Rune is now ready to go as he prepares for the Masters 1000 event in Toronto.
The world number six posted the following update on Twitter along with a video from his training session in Monaco.
Rune will look to be back on form as he has a small amount of points to defend in America as last year he only won back-to-back at one tournament over the US hard court swing which was the US Open.
As things stand Rune will be the fifth seed in Toronto, which starts on the 7th of August.
Kyrgios Withdraws From Washington
However one player that is looking unlikely to feature in Canada is Nick Kyrgios who has struggled to return from his knee injury that he suffered last year.
After making a brief return over the grass court season in Stuttgart, Kyrgios withdrew from Wimbledon a day before the tournament was due to start.
Now the Australian’s hopes of making a full comeback in America seem to have take a blow as he has now withdrawn from next week’s 500 event in Washington.
Kyrgios was the defending champion from last year having beaten Yoshihito Nishioka in the final.
It remains to be seen whether Kyrgios will play the rest of the US hard court swing with time running out for him to make a meaningful comeback this year.
As a result of Kyrgios’ withdrawal, Michael Mmoh now enters the main draw in Washington which starts on Monday.
