Australia’s Nick Kyrgios’ breakthrough run at Wimbledon last month almost had a fairytale ending before nemesis Novak Djokovic battled back to prevail in the final.

The world No.47 was leading Djokovic by a set in the title match before losing 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3). At The All England Club Kyrgios beat Stefanos Tsitsipas, Brandon Nakashima and Cristian Garin en route to his first major final at the age of 27. This year’s Wimbledon was his 31st appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.

Reflecting on his run during an Instagram question and answer session, Kyrgios believes he would have won the Wimbledon crown if he had played any other player. Although he admits that he needs to work on managing his emotions better for the future.

“Honestly, I feel as if my first slam final was impressive, next time I would try to ride the emotional wave a little smoother but I realize how much was on the line,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I feel if I was up against anyone else but Djokovic in the final with the way I served that day, I would of won.”

Against Djokovic, Kyrgios hit an impressive 30 aces and won 66% of his service points but it still wasn’t enough to get him over the finish line. Following the match, he paid tribute to his opponent over his ability to excel during the clutch moments.

Another fan asked the tennis star why he feels the need to be cocky on the Tour? However, he promptly put down that accusation.

“People tend to confuse my confidence for arrogance because they have no idea what I’ve been through,” Kyrgios replied.

In another coment, Kyrgios has hinted that he and girlfriend Costeen Hatzi may try for a baby, as well as get engaged next year at some stage. Hatzi is an interior designer who is five years younger than him.

Kyrgios is currently playing in this week’s Atlanta Open but only in the doubles tournament alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis. He was forced to pull out of his singles match due to soreness in his left knee.
