Andy Murray has admitted matches are important to his consistency but achieving better results are his next step.

The three time grand slam champion missed out on an opportunity to reach his third ATP semi-final of the season after losing to Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-4 in Newport.

Murray earned back to back wins in his final grass court tournament of the season over Sam Querrey and Max Purcell in Newport but the Brit lost to the third seed to bow out in the last eight.

Speaking to the ATP website after the match Murray confessed he is on the right path but is seeking an improvement in his results, “Obviously I just want the results to be a bit better,” Murray said.

“I felt like I had a good chance of [advancing] here. If I got through Bublik, it would have been a good opportunity potentially in the semi-finals. But, to have my body feeling pretty good and getting lots of matches in is important for me.

“The grass-court season as a whole there were some good moments, but also some tough ones. Today’s match and the loss at Wimbledon were disappointing and frustrating for me, but then I also had my best wins in a while in Stuttgart.

“So a bit up and down, but a little bit of progress overall and I’ll try and keep that going through the hard-court summer.”

Murray has played 13 tournaments this season and has a win-loss record 17-10 on the ATP tour which is positive news in terms of fitness and competing consistently on tour over the season.

Next for the Brit is to improve his results and he will look to do that over the next few weeks as he aims to be seeded for the US Open.

Currently ranked at 52 in the world, Murray will play Atlanta and Washington before potentially taking wildcards into Montreal and Cincinnati.

The tournament in Atlanta begins on the 25th of July.
