The number two seed booked her spot in a second consecutive final after dominating her Swedish opponent.
Anett Kontaveit for a second week in a row will be playing for a title as she beat Rebecca Peterson 6-3, 6-1 in 63 minutes hitting 23 winners and serving seven aces in a match that she dominated from start to finish
Kontaveit with the win is one win away from booking a spot in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara and a chance to win back-to-back titles after winning the tournament in Moscow last week.
“I think yesterday and today played a little bit better than the previous matches and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy because I know Rebecca (Peterson) is a good player and I know her really well since we are young and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy and really had to work for it today.”
After holding serve in her opening service game the world number 14 went on the attack and earned two early chances to break and using her powerful forehand broke the Swede for the 2-0 lead.
She managed to turn that break into a double break and found herself up 5-0 within 20 minutes and it looked like she was going to run away with the match.
Kontaveit had a look at a set point but the world number 99 fought back and managed to rattle off three straight games with the Estonian taking her foot off the gas a bit.
The world number 14 eventually served out the first set and regained the momentum, once again breaking serve in the first game of the second set using her forehand with a stunning winner down the line.
The set stayed on serve until 3-1 when the Estonian broke serve again to go up a double break once again and served out the match.
After the match in her post-match press conference, she was asked what it means for her to finish the season with back-to-back finals and she admits it was no easy task for her.
“It’s not physically easy and I have been playing some good tennis and I am really happy with the way I got through this week again and a lot to play for and something to really enjoy and go for.”
Kontaveit will face either Simona Halep or Marta Kostyuk in the final on Sunday and a win not only gives her a second consecutive title but a spot in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico.
