Jasmine Paolini beat Dayana Yastremska 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in 1 hour and 34 minutes in the quarter finals to reach the semifinal at the Courmayeur Ladies Open.
Yastremska won 81% of her first service points to Paolini’s 71%. Paolini won 66% of her second-serve points to Yastremska’s 59%. The Italian player saved two break points in the sixth game of the opening set before earning her only break in the ninth game to win the first set 6-4. Yastremska saved two break points to hold serve at deuce in the third game of the second set. Paolini earned three match points at 6-2 with three mini-breaks. Yastremska saved the first two match points, but Paolini converted her third chance to win the tie-break 7-4.
Paolini set up a semifinal match against Donna Vekic, who beat Xinyu Wang 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour and 27 minutes. Vekic won 84% of her first serve points to Wang’s 64%. The Croatian player converted three of her five break points and dropped her serve once.
Danish teenager Clara Tauson came back from one set down to beat Li Ann 3-6 6-4 6-2 after 1 hour and 51 minutes. Li saved two of the break points she faced.
Li Ann saved three break points she faced in the first game before breaking serve in the sixth game to win the first set 6-3.
Tauson broke serve in the fourth game of the second set to take a 3-1 lead. Li Ann broke straight back in the fifth game to draw level to 3-3. Tauson sealed the second set 6-4 with her second break in the 10th game. The Dane broke twice in the fourth and eighth games to seal the third set 6-2. Tauson will face Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova, who cruised past Anna Kalinskaya 6-1 6-2 in just 57 minutes. Samsonova converted six of the eleven break points and saved one of the two break points she faced.
