The world number 14 cruised past her Ukrainian opponent to book a spot in the final four.
Anett Kontaveit is officially two wins away from winning a second consecutive title after the Estonian thrashed the Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in 62 minutes at the Translyvania Open in Cluj Napoca.
The Tallinn native served five aces and won 75% of her first serve points in a match that was clearly one-sided and dominated from the first point of the match.
“I was feeling really well on court today I feel like my energy was raised and I raised my level.”
The first set stayed on serve until 2-2 when the world number 14 used her powerful groundstrokes to set up breakpoint and was able to convert to take a 3-2 lead.
The Estonian would once again break to seal a 5-3 lead as she took the opening set.
Winning the first set gave Kontaveit the boost she needed and after holding serve in the opening game of the second she went on the offensive once again and got the early break for a 2-0 lead.
After consolidating the break she was hungry for more and managed to turn that break into a double break and a couple of games later was able to serve it out.
After the match in her post-match press conference, Kontaveit spoke about the fact how she feels this was her most complete match this week in Cluj-Napoca.
“She challenged me to play longer rallies and I felt like I did that really well and I think I was more consistent and played a better match than the previous two matches.”
Kontaveit will now face the Swede Rebecca Peterson in the semifinals on Saturday after she beat another Ukrainian earlier in the day in Lesia Tsurenko in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
