Kei Nishikori has been forced to pull outof the Delray Beach tournament, which kicks off the 2021 ATP Tour season. The Japanese star, made a major breakthrough in his career in 2008, when he won his first ATP title in Delray Beach becoming the youngest player to win an ATP tournament since Lleyton Hewitt in Adelaide in 1998.

Nshikori, who played just four ATP Tour matches this year due to injury problems and a positive test to Covid-19, will make his start to the 2021 season at the second edition of the ATP Cup in Melbourne in the first week of February. He will team up with Yoshihito Nishioka.

During the 2020 season the 2014 US Open finalist won a five-set match in the first round against Dan Evans in the French Open first round before losing to Stefano Travaglia in five sets. In the Rome Masters 1000 Nishikori beat Alberto Ramos Vinolas before losing to Lorenzo Musetti in the second round. He withdrew from the Southern and Western Open due to Covid-19 and from St. Petersburg due to an injury.

Nishikori is now ranked world number 41. His major goal for the 2021 season is to play at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on home soil.

Nishikori married to his partner Mari Yamauchi before Christmas.
