Frenchman Jeremy Chardy came back from losing the first set to upset Danil Medvedev 4-6 6-2 6-4 reaching the third round at the Paris Rolex Masters.
Chardy saved 14 of the 15 break point chances and broke three times to score his biggest win in 2019.
Medvedev dropped just four points in the first set and broke Chardy at 15 in the 10th game when Chardy hit a forehand error.
Chardy earned a break in the fifth game when Medvedev sent a backhand long. The Frenchman went up a 5-2 lead after a forehand error from Medvedev and sealed the second set 6-2 in the eighth game after saving a break point.
Chardy saved all nine break points he faced in the third set and broke serve at 3-3 with a forehand winner. He fended off a break point with a service winner and sealed the win when Medvedev sent a forehand long. Chardy will face either Christian Garin or John Isner in the third round.
Medvedev lost for the first time after a nine-match winning streak since losing to Rafael Nadal in the US Open final. The Russian player had won his 11 consecutive matches at Masters 1000 tournaments and reached six finals in a row since the Citi Open in Washington. He won 29 of his previous 32 matches since Wimbledon.
Chardy has reached the third round at the Paris Bercy Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career and stopped a 10-match losing streak against top ten players. During his career Chardy scored his 12th win against a top 10 player. His most recent win against a top 10 dates back to the 2018 Miami Masters 1000 tournament, when he beat Dominic Thiem.
