The FFT have decided to ban Serena Williams’ catsuit outfit for future Roland Garros tournament as they feel the outfit went too far.

The move made by French Tennis Federation president, Bernard Giudicelli, comes after the American wore the catsuit outfit at the 2018 French Open due to doctors advice. The decision to wear it was Serena simply taking precautionary measures after she found out she had a haematoma following the birth of her child.

However Giudicelli admits that letting Serena wear the black panther inspired outfit was a mistake and will ban for future Roland Garros events, “It’s a bit late because the collections are already designed but we are going to nonetheless ask the manufacturers to let us know what is coming,” Giudicelli explained.

“I believe we have sometimes gone too far. Serena’s outfit this year, for example, would no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”

As you can imagine the news hasn’t gone down well with Serena’s fans, considering the reason she wore it was to protect against blood clots. This isn’t the only time Giudicelli has caused controversy as last year he was convicted for defamation in France but still was allowed on the ITF’s board.

Earlier this year Serena explained that she hoped the outfit would empower young women, “It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically, with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves,” Serena stated.

“I definitely feel like it is an opportunity for me to inspire a whole different group of amazing women and kids.I call it, like, my Wakanda-inspired catsuit  (the film Black Panther). We designed it way before the movie but still, it kind of reminds me of that.”

We now await the 23 grand slam champion’s reaction to the news.
