The semi-final line-up for the women’s draw at the French Open is complete following wins by Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza.
The two players, who are seeded first and third in the draw, came through their matches on Wednesday in a contrasting manor. Top seed Halep battled from a set down to defeat Angelique Kerber in three sets. Recording her fifth win over the German on the tour. Meanwhile, 2016 champion Muguruza spent just 73 minutes on the court during her quarter-final match. Dropping just three games against Maria Sharapova.
It was an anticlimactic ending to the men’s matches with rain stopping play. Although in one way it is a blessing in disguise for 10-time champion Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard dropped his first set at the tournament since 2015 against Diego Schwartzman during a rain-interrupted encounter. Nadal managed to regain his momentum in the second set before the match came to an halt at 4-6, 5-3. Juan Martin del Potro’s and Marin Cilic’s match also stopped at 6-6. Both of those quarter-final clashes will resume on Thursday.
