Toni Nadal has hinted in a recent interview that Rafael Nadal could make his return to tennis at the beginning of April when Spain take on Germany in the Davis Cup Quarter-Finals.
The 10 time Roland Garros champion had to pull out of Indian Wells and Miami due to a troubling knee injury that he suffered at the Australian Open. However Rafa’s uncle, Toni Nadal has hinted that the Spaniard could return much sooner than expected at April’s upcoming Davis Cup ties, when Spain host Germany. “I spoke with him and his goal is to play it,” Toni told Murcia Sport & Business. “Obviously, we, or rather he, will see how he is. If he’s recovered, then surely he’ll play.”
Despite the injury Toni still thinks that Rafael Nadal is still favourite to capture his 11the Roland Garros crown in June, “There is no reason to think that everything will go bad, every year it’s more difficult, that’s the truth, but I think that this year the number one favourite is Rafael.”
This is good news for all tennis fans including the Spanish contingent, who will hope Rafa is available for their tie against Germany in Valencia in April. Nadal’s last Davis Cup tie was in 2015 when Spain defeated India 5-0 after he and Marc Lopez won the doubles rubber.
