Greek youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas has remained upbeat despite his second round exit to Dominic Thiem in Indian Wells.
Tsitsipas, who is ranked 71 in the world is still learning the process of the ATP World Tour however he remains mature in his attitude, so it is no surprise that he is taking the positives from his second round exit in the Californian desert. “Of course I’m patient. As we say in Greece, things have their own time, they will come at the right time,” said the 19 year old.
“I try to stay humble, stay hungry, do the right things, work correctly, do the right things off and on the court and I believe the result is something that is just a word.” The Athens resident’s attitude is a refreshing one as he keeps on shining on and off the court as a mature, talented player that will go deep on the tour.
He has a very good serve, as well as being cool, calm and collected unlike other players in his age group such as Alexander Zverev. The mental side of the game is so important in modern day Tennis and this is an attribute that Tsitsipas seems to have grasped very well at such a young age.
Of course technically he needs to improve, such as his technique on his backhand and his drop shots however he has time on his side and at 71 in the world at 19 years of age, is very good. He seems to have been grounded from a young age and working with the likes of Patrick mouratoglou have clearly helped him to develop into a very good teenage player and his match with Dominic Thiem proves that he has massive potential.
Tsitsipas will hope to keep his grounded attitude as it will stand him in good stead for the rest of his tennis career. So far, so good for Tsitsipas, who has the Miami Open to look forward to next, which starts on the 21st of March.
