World number five Alexander Zverev believes that winning a grand slam is not too far away and also thinks that wins against Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will help him.
Zverev, who is yet to beat a top 50 player at a grand slam, believes that winning a grand slam is a short term goal rather than a long term goal, “In my career, I beat my idol Roger Federer and players like Novak Djokovic as well, I am sure that, if I focus on my preparation, it won’t take a lot of time before winning a Grand Slam.”
A lot of doubt has been raised over the German’s potential to win one of the four slams as he is yet to reach the Quarter-Finals and has constantly been shocked on the big occasions, his latest grand slam loss came at the hands of Hyeon Chung in the second round.
The current world number five has also commented on a potential working partnership with multiple grand slam champion and compatriot, Boris Becker, “It’s an honor for me to count on him. I think my level can improve a lot. Until a few years ago, Boris shared the court with my father, so I am very happy. I know that things will improve starting from Acapulco and I don’t get down. He will be in Davis Cup and other tournaments but I can’t say he will be my coach.”
Boris Becker has previous coaching as he experienced success winning many grand slams with 12 time grand slam champion, Novak Djokovic. Zverev is currently in Acapulco, where he will compete in the Quarter-Finals this evening against Ryan Harrison.
