Young Italian star Matteo Berrettini is on the brink of breaking into the Top 100 for the first time in his career. The 21 year-old won his first Challenger title of the 2018 season in Bergamo. Berrettini as the top seeddefeated fellow Italian Stefano Napolitano 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Berrettini, who stands at 6’4, hit twelve aces in the match. He is noted for a big serve, also hitting twelve aces in his second round win over Constant Lestienne. The title in Bergamo is Berrettini’s second at Challenger level. It adds to the title he won last year in San Benedetto against Laslo Djere.
The win moves Berrettini to 2-4 in Challenger finals in his young career. He went 1-3 last season as he lost title matches to Sergiy Stakhovsky in Potoroz, and Malek Jaziri in Turkey.
Berrettini moves up to a career-high ranking of No.104. He is just thirty points off breaking into the significant group.
In the Kyoto tournament, the draw went with the seeding going into the final, as top seed John Millman faced second seed Jordan Thompson. Millman won 7-5, 6-1.
Millman moves up ten places in the ATP rankings, regaining a Top 100 place as he moves to No.93. He extends his career head-to-head record over Millman to 2-0.
