12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic’s former coach Boris Becker has claimed that the Serbian superstar does not get the credit he deserves for his success.

Becker, a former World No. 1 and three-time Wimbledon champion was in conversation with Tennis 365. The German, who coached Djokovic from 2014 to 2016, also insisted that despite his ongoing struggles with an elbow injury the 30-year-old was still capable of winning more Grand Slam titles in the future whenever he will be back on the men’s circuit.

Djokovic won his last Major title at the 2016 French Open. He made his highly publicized comeback from a six-month injury layoff at the Australian Open but failed to perform at a high level as the aforementioned elbow problem resurfaced in his fourth round encounter against Chung Hyeon. The severe pain in his elbow eventually proved to be the main reason behind his surprise loss at the hands of the South Korean.

The Monte Carlo resident recently underwent minor elbow surgery and is expected to make his return to competitive tennis at the Indian Wells Masters in March.

On being asked whether Djokovic has received the kind of praise Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have got, Becker responded: “Maybe not, but he is in an era when we have two incredible popular and successful players in [Roger] Federer and [Rafael] Nadal and that is a factor. Novak has had an incredible career and it was a privilege for me to work with him and get to know him and his team. I wish him all the best for the future and for sure he can win more majors.”

Becker spoke about Andy Murray’s passion and desire to succeed on a tennis court as well. When questioned about how highly he rated the Briton, Becker answered: “One of the best, for sure. In another era, maybe he would have more Grand Slam titles to confirm his quality, but this is a challenging time in tennis. His drive, his passion, his desire to get the best from himself is exceptional. He has the right attitude to succeed and many of the kids coming through could learn from him.”
