World number 94 Jordan Thompson looks to build on a successful 2017 season as he prepares for his home grand slam at the Australian in three weeks time.
Thompson had an unbelievable season in 2017 as he beat the likes of David Ferrer and Andy Murray to make an impact on the ATP World Tour. The 23 year old Aussie has said that this has only inspired him to do bigger and better things in 2018, “It was a good year. I played more tour events than challengers. I played all the grand slams and Davis Cup.”
The Australian has also been given a helping hand ahead of the upcoming season with Australian tennis legends such as Tony Roche, Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter helping Thompson out in the off-season, “It was awesome for Tony to let me hit at his house – I listen to every word he says to me,” said Thompson.
Thompson, who has a direct entry to the Australian Open, also received help from Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt, “Lleyton was down in Melbourne hitting with us as well so I’ve had some good work over the pre-season.”
The advice from such legends will help boost Thompson’s game and keep him in good shape for one of the most important events of his season in a few weeks time. We know has the ability to produce his very best tennis but can he use it more consistently, which is the question many people will be asking heading into 2018.
Thompson’s first tournament will be at the Brisbane International next week as a wildcard.
