Rafael Nadal is the most decorated player in the history of clay-court tennis. The Spaniard has won 10 French Open titles in his career.
When Nadal was interviewed by Mapfre, he was posed the question of which player from history he would most have liked to play against. Nadal: ” I would have liked to play with Borg, who they always say was unbeatable. Especially on clay. I would have liked to experiment his strength.”
Borg himself is a six-time winner of the French Open. Nadal emulated the great Swede by becoming the first man since Borg to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. Nadal defeated Roger Federer in the French Open final that year and a Wimbledon final that is regarded as one of the finest of all time.
Nadal and Borg spent some time together this year, as Borg captained Team Europe at the inaugural Laver Cup, in a victory over a John McEnroe led Rest of the World team.
Nadal ended his season as the World No.1 after an excellent season that included titles at the French Open and the US Open, as well as an Australian Open final.
