Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro will continue working with global sports and entertainment company Team8 for the foreseeable future.
In an official statement released on Monday, the Argentine has pledged his full backing behind the organisation. Team8 was founded in 2013 by Roger Federer and his long term agent Tony Godsick following their departure from IMG. Del Potro was one of the first athletes to be represented by the organisation.
“I am excited to continue to work together with Team8 and I look forward to the future,” said Del Potro.
Team8 has earned a commission of US$13.1 million (as of September 2016), according to forbes.com. Their contract value management is estimated to be US$74.3 million. The company is one of the founders of the upcoming Laver Cup, an international men’s team tournament that will feature players from Europe against players from the rest of the world. Grigor Dimitrov and ice hockey player Henrik Lundqvist are also represented by the agency.
“We are very pleased to continue working with Juan Martin. He is one of the best and most popular players in the world and his achievements are so impressive. Chris Jackman of Team8 will handle his day-to-day management and seek global opportunities for Juan Marin.” Said Team8 CEO Godsick.
“As expected, Juan Martin is climbing back to the top of the ATP World Tour rankings which is amazing for the sport of tennis.” He added.
This week Del Potro has broken into the world’s top-30 for the first time since returning to action from a wrist injury last year. At the Rome Masters, the Argentine reached the last eight of a Masters event for the first time since 2013. In the tournament, he produced wins over Grigor Dimitrov, Kyle Edmund and Kei Nishikori, before losing to Novak Djokovic.
The 28-year-old is participating in this week’s Lyon Open ahead of the French Open. It will be Del Potro’s first appearance at Roland Garros since 2012, when he reached the quarter-finals.
