With Game of Thrones season six finished for a few months now, like most of us, withdrawal symptoms are starting to kick in. As a way to void the gap, staying connected to the show is what keeps us sane. As we await the penultimate season, there are factions fighting across every corner of the world for power. Remind you of anything? How about the men’s tennis? Has there ever been a bigger fight for dominance? No one player has been able to fully exert their dominance for awhile, though many have tried! Much like no one seems to be able to sit on the Iron Throne for more than a season at best!
We decided to see which male tennis stars most resemble GOT characters, and more importantly, which ones?
Beware! If you haven’t seen season six it will contain spoilers.
Novak Djokovic – Tyrion Lannister
It is true, they don’t look a thing alike. But it’s not here where the comparisons end. Both make up for physical stature, with impeccable smarts. Both have a huge influence on proceedings, whereas others might bide their time and fall into peril.
Both have had plenty holding them back on their way to the top. But yet with desire and ability they have climbed up the ranks. Both are good at knocking out opponents, Tyrion took out his father. Djokovic went slightly smaller and just beat Murray, Federer and Nadal.
Stan Wawrinka – Little Finger
Both are important in their respective field, but don’t tend to enter into the limelight on a particularly regular basis. But both seem to pounce when the opportunity is right. Wawrinka in recent years has notched up three grand slams titles, with the likes of Nadal and Federer dropping behind slightly.
Little Finger is equally as ruthless, pouncing at every opportunity he has, to gain an advantage. He was quick to dispose of Joffrey Baratheon in his quest for the Iron throne.
Andy Murray – Jon Snow
In a strange sort of way, the pair actually do look alike. Long curly locks seem to be the style. But what makes this pairing so obvious, is that they are both fighters. Jon was able to pretty much shake off being murdered by his so called ‘brothers.’ Murray on the other hand was able to fight back several Wimbledon final defeats, to finally come up trumps and beat Djokovic.
Both are humble and have the weight of a nation on them. For Jon being a Stark makes you leader of the North. For Murray being British means everybody in the country is on your back!
Rodger Federer – Jamie Lannister
Surely the most obvious pairing? They’re both handsome and stylish. Both ageing ever so slightly, but both still fantastic at what they do. In their primes, neither could be defeated quite simply. They also know how good they are and don’t mind reminding everybody of their fantastic achievements. The most obvious similarity? The two have reached the top, achieved it all and quite simply do not want to come back down.
Rafael Nadal – Oberyn Martell
Possibly not a pairing most will agree with. Both have a swanky Spanish accent and are very eloquent speakers. But the real comparisons we can draw is their ability. The pair have tremendous skill and at their peak are almost untouchable. However, they both fall to injury. Gio Muratore of Betting Tip Stars says ” It is scary to think what could have been for Nadal iff he didn’t have the injuries. Then again his injuries are a bi-product of his style of play.” For Nadal it seems to be one knee problem after another. For Martell it is more a case of having his face bashed in……
With so many characters and players to through, there were some which unfortunately had to be missed of the list. But in terms of characteristics and playing ability, these are the most similar. Perhaps it highlights why both tennis and game of thrones are so wildly successful. They are more alike than you think!
