The Former Top 10 player has not entered a tournament since falling to Tomas Berdych in the second round of US Open 2015. After that Melzer has undergone a shoulder surgery and many doubted that he would ever return to tennis, but he proved them wrong. Melzer has so far not announced his comeback on Twitter. The Austrian, currently ranked No. 341, is the 5th seed of the qualification and has a bye in the first round. His first opponent will be probably be Ilija Vucic ranked 735 in the ATP rankings, and has never broken the Top 700 or the unranked 29 year-old wild card Tomas Vyrostko. Next in Melzer’s path to qualify will most probably be the No. 1 seed of qualifying, Jan Mertl ranked No. 282.
