Brian Baker, perhaps the unluckiest man in tennis when it comes to injury. The thirty year-old American has suffered six major surgeries in his career, five early in his career, and another as he rebuilt his career three years ago.
It is great news then that Baker has been awarded a wildcard for the Indian Wells qualifying event. It would be just his second appearance since withdrawing from the 2014 Australian Open with a knee injury.
Baker made his first tour appearance since 2013 when he used a protected ranking to take part in the Australian Open, going out to Simone Bolelli in credible fashion, losing in four tie-break sets. Baker reached a career-high ranking of no.52 in 2012, built as a result of a finalist run in Nice, and a run to the fourth-round at Wimbledon.
Wildcard recipients for the main draw are Juan Martin Del Potro, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Mackenzie McDonald and Rajeev Ram.
