Roger Federer revealed his tentative schedule for the 2016 season which features only one clay tournament, the Roland Garros. He has not included the three main European clay Masters 1000 tournament (Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome) and Miami.

Federer talked about his plans for 2016 during the International Tennis Premier League

“I only play between 16 and 20 tournaments, so in my case every tournament counts. Of course I want to peak at certain times but I don’t see particular events as warm-ups for other events”, said Federer.

This means that he will not play at any tournament for two months. Federer stressed that he will play the same number of tournaments as in 2015. He added Rotterdam in February and another grass tournament in Stuttgart.

“I am taking it very seriously because I will be training super hard. This is not me on vacation for two months. This will actually be 10 days off and the rest will be training. I will be ready when the French Open comes around but I will try to save my energy for the summer tournaments. I am planning to play the French Open, Stuttgart, Halle, Wimbledon, the Olympics, Toronto, Cincinnati and the US Open. So there is a lot of tennis to be played in the summer. By choosing that kind of schedule I thought I can manage my energy better throughout that busy period of time”, said Federer

Federer will start his 2016season in Brisbane where he will defend his title won last year when he became the third player in history to reach the milestone 1000th match win of his legendary career after Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl.
