Rafael Nadal spoke to the media in Basel, where he arrives at the end of a positive Asian trip. The Spaniard is feeling better, so much so that he doesn’t want to waste any time in resting at the end of this season, to prepare 2016 at his best.
Rafael Nadal has arrived in Basel, where he will be seeded as No.3 at the Swiss indoors after the two Swiss home favorites, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. After a very tough season for the Spaniard, in which Nadal has lost his crown of “King of Clay” and overall didn’t play at his best, things are starting to look better for the Spaniard. Rafael has just arrived back from a positive Asian trip, during which he reahed the finals in Beijing losing to Djokovic, playing a much higher level of tennis compared to what was seen lately.
Speaking to the media, Nadal confirmed his positive feelings.
“I am working hard to improve every day. Mentally I am starting to feel great. You can’t really compared the previous years, the different levels of play, I just need to get back what I lost this year and I think I am working in the best possible way to achieve that. Compared to the start of the season, I have had many steps forward. This final part of the season I am taking it as a practice session, to prepare for next year. Obviously Shanghai, Beijing, Basel, Paris Bercy and the ATP Finals are all very important tournaments, and I will fight on every single ball. Surely this is the toughest part of the season” said the 14-time Grand Slam champion.
Rafael also revealed that he is fully focused and determined to do well in 2016, so much so that he decided not to rest at the end of the season, but rather start working hard early on to arrive at his best level for 2016.
“I start preparing for the 2016 season starting on today. There will be no rest this year. I have no time for that. Maybe I will just take few days off after the ATP World Tour Finals. In this season I have improved on a mental side. To try and find a way to play at the best possible level is what motivates me every day. My goal is to enjoy tennis, to feel always competitive wherever I go, feel happy about what I do and achieve good results. In these cases, victories surely help. I am in good health and that allows me to practice well.”
