Carla Suarez Navarro was surprisingly well beaten by 18 year old rising star Daria Kasatkina in the quarter finals of the Kremlin Cup, meaning her bid to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore came to an end. This result also means that the lineup for the end of season tournament is complete with Lucie Safarova taking the final slot to join Halep, Muguruza, Sharapova, Kvitova, Radwanska, Kerber and Pennetta.
“Time to accept, recover and come back stronger. I need to look forward with optimism”, posted Suarez Navarro on her Twitter site shortly after the defeat. As for Safarova, it was all smiles: “I am really excited to qualify for the WTA finals for the first time. It has been a dream year and to be one of the eight qualifiers in singles and also compete in the doubles is something that makes me very proud. There have already been so many highlights this year, and I hope to finish it playing some more great tennis in front of the amazing Singapore crowd“.
