As confirmed by reports in the German media, Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker will extend their relationship into 2016 as they are set to embark on their third consecutive season working together. The success achieved between the former German superstar and the current world number one has meant this decision was a no-brainer and Becker confirmed to Sport Bild: “We will continue together in 2016. We will benefit each other mutually. Novak has a great team around him and it’s a pleasure for me to be a part of it”.

When Djokovic hired Becker towards the end of 2013 it was to try and make up ground on Rafa Nadal, who was unquestionably on top of the game, and the results since they started working together are there for everyone to see. Under the guidance of Becker, Djokovic has made six finals from eight Grand Slam appearances, and has lifted the trophy in four of them.

The Serb has mentioned that Becker “is largely responsible for a great part of my success. He has contributed to my mental improvement in big matches. We talk a lot about how I have to control my emotions on the court and how I have to manage my thoughts and try to channel them to fight to win those titles”.

Finally, Becker has tried to deflect any responsibility behind Djokovic’s magnificent success: “This down to the players and not their coaches. My great advantage is that, besides Roland Garros, I’ve been in the final of every other Grand Slam as well as the Davis Cup and the Olympics. I’ve been through that and I can give advice to those that haven’t”.

¿An unstoppable combination? We will see what the rest of the field comes up with in 2016 to try and stop a Boris Becker inspired Novak Djokovic.
