Flavio Cobolli cruised past Damir Dzumhur 6-3 6-0 to reach the final at the Ion Tiriac Open in Bucharest.

Cobolli will play the second final of his career a few months after finishing runner-up to Sebastian Korda in Washington in August 2024.

Cobolli won 79% of his first service points and did not face a break point. The Italian player hit 20 winners to 24 unforced errors. Dzumhur ended the match with eight winners to 21 unforced errors.

Cobolli earned three break points in the second game of the opening set and broke serve with a forehand passing shot. The world number 45 player wasted a total of four double break points in the sixth and eight games, but he served out 6-3 on his third set point.

Cobolli earned an early break in the first game of the second set. He broke twice more in the third and fifth games and sealed the second set with a bagel on his first match point.

Cobolli arrived in Bucharest with a eight-match losing streak.

“I think I’m starting to like this court and this country. Every match I play here, I feel like I’m at home”, said Cobolli.

Cobolli set up a championships match against Argentina’s number one seed Sebastian Baez, who beat Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 6-2 6-2 after 84 minutes. Baez saved all six break points he faced. Baez achieved his first straight-sets win this week.

Baez tied Felix Auger Aliassime for most ATP Tour final appearances in 2025 with three championships matches.

“It’s my first time here, so I’m happy to be here and to play at this level. I think today I played very well, so I’m happy to be in the final. I will talk to my coach about the good things and the bad things, try to recover and we will see how it goes tomorrow”, said Baez.

Baez converted his second break point in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. He saved two break points to hold serve after two deuces for 3-1. Baez converted his second break point in the seventh game to race out to 5-2 lead and served it out 6-2 on his second set point on the third deuce after saving two break points in the eighth game.

Baez broke serve to 15 in the third game of the second set to take a 2-1 lead. Fucsovics saved two break points to hold serve at deuce in the fifth game to reduce the gap to 2-3. Baez converted his second break points in the seventh game to open up a 5-2 lead and served out the win on his first match point.
