Italian 17-year-old rising star Federico Cinà beat Argentine Francisco Comesana 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2) at the Miami Open to win his first ATP Tour match. Cinà becomes the first player born in 2007 to win a WTA 1000 title.
Cinà reached his first ATP Challenger Tour Final in Hersonissos (Greece) last week.
Cinà earned an early break in the first game in the first game of the opening set. Comesana broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Cinà saved a set point in the 12th game to force the first set to tie-break.
Cinà earned his only mini-break to win the tie-break 7-4.
The Italian teenager saved an early break point in the first game of the second set. He broke serve in the fourth game to open up a 4-1 lead. Comesana saved a match point at 3-5 before breaking back in the ninth game. The Argentine held serve at 30 to draw level to 5-5. Comesana earned an early mini-break in the tie-break but Cinà won seven of the next eight points with three mini-breaks to seal the tie-break 7-2.
Cinà set up a second round match against last year’s Miami finalist Grigor Dimitrov.
“I’m very happy. It was very difficult. But I’m very happy to win. I started the match very good, played a very good tie-break. Then in the second set, I was [ahead] 5-2, then I got cramps. But it was very good to stay there every point”, said Cinà.
