Jack Draper came back from one set down to beat 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini 4-6 6-4 6-3 after 2 hours and 22 minutes reaching the semifinal at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open in Doha.
Berrettini saved two break points in the second game. The Italian player broke serve in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. He saved four break-back points before serving out on his third set point.
Berrettini saved two break points in the sixth game of the second set. Draper converted his fourth break point in the 10th game to win the second set 6-4.
Draper broke Berrettini’s serve for the second time in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. The British player saved a break-back point with an ace in the seventh game to open up a 5-2 lead before serving out the match.
Draper set up a semifinal clash against Jiri Lehecka, who beat Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 3-6 6-4.
The winner of Friday’s semifinal between Draper and Lehecka will face either fifth seed Andrey Rublev or unseeded Felix Auger Aliassime in the final.
“I felt in the second set I was knocking out on the door and no quite taking my opportunities but I played strong”, said Draper.
