Francisco Comesana earned the biggest win of his career by knocking out Alexander Zverev in Rio De Janeiro.
It’s the second week in a row that Zverev has lost to an Argentinian as the German once again failed to reach the latter stages of a tournament in South America.
However all the headlines go to Comesana who executed a superb final set comeback, overcoming a 4-1 deficit in the final set to claim a 4-6 6-3 6-4 victory.
After saving match points against Nicolas Jarry earlier in the week, Comesana played fearless to tennis to defeat the top seed.
After the match Comesana admitted he is enjoying his tennis after a remarkable win, “I was repeating to myself throughout the match, ‘How good it is to be alive.’ So, I was enjoying the entire match,” the Argentinian explained to the ATP website.
“I think it is because [of] all the hard work I have been doing to be here. I have to be grateful for this moment and I am enjoying [it].”
As things stand Comesana will climb up 19 places to 67 in the world but will be hoping for a higher rise when he takes on Alexandre Muller in the semi-finals in Rio De Janeiro.
The other semi-final will see defending champion Sebastian Baez take on Camilo Ugo Carabelli with the action beginning at 8pm GMT.
