Nick Kyrgios made his return to tennis at the World Tennis League but came up short against Andrey Rublev.
The team event is taking place in Abu Dhabi in order to prepare players for the start of the 2025 season.
The likes of Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek have headlined the women’s side while Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud have headlined the men’s side.
However the big talking point has been the return of Nick Kyrgios who played an exhibition set against Andrey Rublev.
It was the Australian’s first tennis match since his straight sets loss to Yibing Wu in Stuttgart last year and Kyrgios lost the set 6-4 to Rublev.
There were encouraging signs for Kyrgios though as he will play his first ATP event on the week of the 30th of December when he plays in Brisbane.
Speaking of Brisbane, the tournament have confirmed that Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic will play doubles with each other at the tournament.
Kyrgios teased the announcement on Instagram last month but the tournament have now confirmed that it will be happening.
The two have been friends since playing each other at the Wimbledon final in 2022 and will now put their friendship to the test in Australia.
