World number 4 Jasmine Paolini will headline a star-studded line-up that features five top-ten players at the WTA 500 tournament at the Adelaide International. Paolini won the WTA 1000 in Dubai, reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The Italian player won the Olympic doubles gold medal with Sara Errani in Paris last summer and qualified for the WTA Finals in both the singles and doubles tournaments.
Paolini will be joined by top 10 players Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, Daria Kasatkina and Barbora Krejcikova and 13 of the top 20 players.
Pegula won the WTA 1000 title in Toronto and reached two finals at WTA 1000 in Cincinnati and at the US Open.
Emma Navarro reached the US Open semifinal and won her first WTA title in Hobart.
Kasatkina won two WTA titles in Eastbourne and Ningbo this year.
Krejcikova won her second Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon beating Paolini in the final.
The line-up also features defending champion Jelena Ostapenko, who will return to defend her title. The Latvian player beat Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-2 in last year’s final of the Adelaide tournament.
Former world number 2 and two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur will make her come-back after ending her 2024 season early due to a shoulder injury.
“I am really happy to be back in Adelaide and be able to compete in front of Aussie fans over there. The last time I was there was really fun and I can’t wait to be back”, said Ons Jabeur.
The other players in action in Adelaide are 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins, who announced last October that she will continue her career in 2025, Paula Badosa, 2024 Comeback of the Year player and winner in Washington this year, 2024 Most Improved Player of the Year nominees Anna Kalinskaya (finalist in Berlin and Dubai) and Diana Schnaider (four-time titlist in Hong Kong, Budapest, Bad Homburg and Hua Hin) and 2023 Newcomer of the Year Mirra Andreeva (winner in Iasi, semifinalist at Roland Garros, finalist in Ningbo, quarter finalist in Cincinnati and Beijing).
“I am looking forward to playing again at the Adelaide International. It is the perfect tournament leading into the Australian Open. The venue and the closeness to the city is something that the players all love as wel as being able to play in front of our Australian fans”, said Paula Badosa.
Marketa Vondrousova will join the field on a protected ranking. The Czech player has not played since losing in the first round at Wimbledon 2023, when she defended her title. Her compatriot Linda Noskova is the last direct acceptance.
Two top 20 players Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Musetti (Olympic bronze medallist), Thanasi Kokkinakis, Felix Auger Aliassime and Sebastian Korda will headline the ATP 250 tournament. Olympic gold medallist Matthew Ebden will play in the doubles tournament.
Tournament Director Alicia Molik is pleased with the world-class line-up. “The calibre of both the ATP and the WTA players entered to compete at the Adelaide International is really pleasing and means that tennis fans are going to see high-quality, world class tennis again”, said Alicia Molik.
