World number 1 Jannik Sinner has been voted the Fans’ Favourite singles player in the annual ATP Awards.
Sinner won eight titles during his sensational 2024 season: 2 Grand Slams (Australian Open and the US Open), the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, three Masters 1000 (Indian Wells, Cincinnati, Shanghai) and two ATP 500 (Rotterdam and Halle) claiming a tour-best for this season. He capped his season by leading Italy to a second consecutive Davis Cup Trophy in Malaga. Sinner is the 19th player to claim year-end world number 1 status and is the third player in the Open Era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season. This feat was last achieved by Argentina’s Guillermo Vilas in 1977.
Sinner opened his season on a 16-match winning streak, that included his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. Sinner fought back from two sets down to beat Danil Medvedev 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 in Melbourne Park becoming the first Italian player in history to win the Australian Open.
Sinner became the first Italian player to win the Nitto ATP Finals beating Taylor Fritz in the championships match in Turin in a re-make of the US Open Final in front of 12000 enthusiastic fans.
The world number 1 player has joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only players in history to win the Australian Open, the US Open and the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in the same season. He also became the first player born in 2000s to clinch the ATP Finals title. Nobody in history had won two Grand Slam titles, the ATP titles and the Davis Cup in the same year.
Sinner lifted the ATP Finals Trophy without losing a set becoming the first player to win the title without losing a set since Ivan Lendl in 1986. The 23-year-old Italian player lost an average of just more than three games per set. He beat Alex De Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Danil Medvedev in the round robin, Casper Ruud in the semifinal and Taylor Fritz in the final.
Sinner scored a record of 73 wins to 6 defeats overall this season becoming the first played to win 70 matches since Andy Murray’s 78 wins in 2018.
“I just want to thank all the fans around the world for voting for me. It means so much for me because the votes are coming from all of you. You are the reason why I love to play tennis. The support has been amazing throughout the whole season”, said Sinner.
