Holger Rune has revealed how many times he was drug tested as he prepares for a UTS event in London.

The last event of Patrick Mouratoglou’s wacky UTS exhibition series concludes at the Copper Box Arena in London this week.

One of the competitors is a player Mouratoglou knows well in the form of his former client Holger Rune.

The Dane is aiming to take home the glory in what has been an average year for the promising star.

However before the event could begin, Rune gave his take on one of the biggest stories in tennis in recent weeks.

That is of course drug testing with two of the biggest stars in the sport testing positive in the form of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek.

Although the amount they tested positive for was very small, it has still been a big talking point with many experts judging whether their sentences were too light.

Speaking in London Rune revealed he had been tested 20 times this season and spoke about looking after his diet, “We had a lot of doping control this year,” Rune was quoted by the tennis365 website as saying.

“Before the Olympics this year, I had around 20 (test) and that is a lot, but they are doing everything to keep the sport clean, which is very, very important. I take a lot of care about the supplements I take like every player, but it can be unfortunate or it can be something else (if you test positive).

“Personally, I always take care of what I eat and drink. If I leave a drink anywhere, I never pick it up again. You have to protect yourself where you can to make sure I can do what I can to do what I love and that’s play tennis every day. I do blood tests maybe once a year to see what my body needs more of, but that’s too personal to talk about. It’s things like vitamin C when you get sick and you need more of that.”

It’s clear there is a lot of work to do if the sport wants to be cleaner in the future.

As for Rune he will start his season in Australia next year and will compete at the Australian Open which starts on the 12th of January.
