Carlos Alcaraz will make his debut at the ABNR Amro Open in Rotterdam from 1 to 9 February 2025.
Alcaraz will join world number 1 Jannik Sinner, who won the Rotterdam title in 2024 beating Alex De Minaur. Sinner is the 29th player to reach the world number 1 spot.
Alcaraz has announced a major change in his calendar in 2025. The 2024 Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion had previously played in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro in the past years, but he will not head to South America for the clay season. He will instead play in the indoor season with the aim to improve on this surface.
Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, who played in Rotterdam six times and reached the final in 2004.
“I am happy that Carlos has chosen to travel to Europe this time after the Australian Open. As a young player he was given the opportunity on the clay in Rio. A surface that many Spanish players grow up with. With titles at Wimbledon, US Open and Roland Garros, he has now shown that he is one of the best players on all types of surfaces. Alcaraz has been high on our wish list for a while. With four titles to his name at the age of 21, he is one of the most spectacular talents ever. It’s about time he comes to the ABN Amro Open. Sinner and Alcaraz are the two players who can dominate tennis in the coming years. It is not without reason that they won all three Grand Slams this year. We are very proud that we can welcome them both”, said Rotterdam Tournament Director Richard Krajicek .
Danil Medvedev is the third announced top 5 player to announce his participation. Medvedev won the final in Rotterdam in 2023 beating Jannik Sinner. Medvedev won eighteen of his twenty titles on hard court. He won the US Open in 2021, and reached the final at the US Open in 2019 and 2023 and at the Australian Open in 2021, 2022 and 2024. “Medvedev is a player who can make things very difficult for Sinner and Alcaraz. He proved that in the Rotterdam final in 2023, when he won the final in the final against Jannik”.
