Carlos Alcaraz has expanded his team by adding an additional coach who will work alongside him and his current coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The world No.2 has started collaborating with Samuel Lopez who is a former member of the Spanish Olympic team and has worked with various top names in Spanish tennis. Lopez had coached Pablo Carreno Busta for nine seasons until this year when they decided to go their separate ways. He has also previously mentored Ferrero, who has been Alcaraz’s main coach since he was a teenager.

“I think Samuel, for me, is one of the best coaches that we have on Tour,” the Associated Press quoted Alcaraz as saying on Tuesday.

“They (Lopez and Ferrero) trust each other 100 percent and being able to travel with both, for me, it’s going to be great. I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them. I think we are going to work pretty hard and pretty good for the next season and the next years. Hopefully we are going to make good results together.”

Alcaraz has stated that his partnership with Ferrero remains strong, praising the former world No.1 for the work he has done with him. Providing some insight into their work, the 21-year-old explains that as he gets older he is starting to have a greater say in the decision-making process.

“They’re listening to me much more than before,” Alcaraz said. “Obviously when I was 16 years old I had nothing to say. I was just mouth closed and ears open and did whatever he said. Right now I’m doing more things for myself, let’s say I’m taking more decisions, serious decisions.

“So I think (we) both are doing great work together as a person as well just to make sure this relationship is still pretty good and the love that we have for each other is huge. So I admire him as a professional but as a person as well.”

Alcaraz, who is the youngest year-end No.1 in ATP history, has won four titles this year, including the French Open and Wimbledon. He is currently in New York where he will play in the Garden Cup exhibition event which will be held at Madison Square Garden. He is scheduled to play against Ben Shelton on Wednesday.
