Alexander Zverev has brought a familiar face back into his team that he hopes will help him break new ground at the major events in 2025.
Zverev, who is currently ranked No.2 in the world after Jannik Sinner, is once again working with fitness trainer Jaz Green. A well-known figure in the world of tennis whose previous clients include Andy Murray, Seb Korda, Dominic Thiem and Emma Raducanu. The Brit has worked as a physical conditioning specialist for more than 20 years on the Tour.
“I worked with him for seven years, and we kind of had a split for three years, and we’re back together,” Zverev told reporters at the United Cup on Sunday.
“For me, the physical aspect probably was the most important of the off-season for sure.
“I feel like I’ve lost one or two matches last year (2024) because I got tired, which I don’t want to happen this year.”
The German has experienced a solid 2024 season during which he won two Masters 1000 titles. However, he is yet to claim a major trophy. At the French Open, he led Carlos Alcaraz by two sets to one in the trophy match before losing 12 out of the next 15 games played. An outcome similar to the 2020 US Open final where Zverev led Thiem by two sets before losing in five.
“I was a bit sick, actually. I was playing with fever there (at the Australian Open),” Zverev said when looking back on the past 12 months.
“And then there was the French Open with Carlos, where I got tired.
“I don’t want that to happen again. They were big matches.
“So, yeah, a lot of hard work on that aspect. I think the tennis will maybe take longer to adjust this year than it was maybe last year.”
Zverev is the highest-ranked male player participating in the United Cup where Germany are the defending champions. His next match is scheduled to take place on Monday against China’s Zhang Zhizhen.
The Australian Open will start on January 12th.
