Alexander Zverev beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5 6-4 after 1 hour and 44 minutes to become just the third active player to reach 20 ATP Masters 1000 semifinals.

Zverev saved the one break point he faced. The German player is chasing his seventh Masters 1000 title and second of the season following his triumph in Rome last May.

Zverev improved to 6-10 in his head-to-head matches against Tsitsipas.

Zverev will chase his third title at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.

Tsitsipas ends his season 11th in the ATP Tour Ranking with a record of 45 wins to 22 defeats. The Greek player has finished the season outside the top 10 for the first time since 2018.

Zverev and Tsitsipas played an evenly match during a hard-fought first set. Both players went on serve until the 11th game when Zverev converted his second break point after a double fault from Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas saved two set points and earned a break-back point, but hit a shot into the net at the end of the longest rally of the match

Zverev converted his fifth break point in a four-deuce third game which lasted 15 minutes to take a 2-1 lead, when Tsitsipas hit a shot long. Zverev consolidated the break easily with a hold at 30. The German player held his next service games to take his win on his first match point.

“I thought the whole match was a very high level from Tsitsipas. He started off hot, had some good chances to break me in the beginning. Maybe not break point wise, I got into the match and I found my rhythm and I felt more and more comfortable and I am happy with the win”, said Zverev.
